ESTABLISHMENT OF THE POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL

The Postgraduate School of the Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba was established to enable the University award higher degrees through postgraduate training and research. The School is also charged with the responsibility of helping departments to improve on their training programmes so as to provide qualified manpower for this and other Universities, Private sector, institutions of higher learning, public corporations and parastatals, federal and state governments.

The objectives of the Postgraduate programme include:

  • Providing opportunity for students of this and other recognized Universities that have distinguished themselves in their first degrees to develop their capacities through postgraduate training.
  • Providing teaching and research opportunities for outstanding first degree holders of this and other recognized Universities to build academic careers for teaching and research in their fields of study.
  • Producing higher degree graduates with the highest standard of professionalism and best practices in their field of study.
  • Producing thorough training and research, higher degree graduates with analytical and individual creative and independent minds with a strong sense of collaborative and group work.
  • Producing graduates capable of applying intellectual knowledge to problem solving in diverse situations in the public and private sectors.

The Postgraduate School is a central body, acting on behalf of the Senate to streamline and harmonize the University postgraduate regulations and programmes. It ensures the maintenance of excellence in all postgraduate programmes across the Faculties in the University. Below is the Organogram of the Postgraduate School:

POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL BOARD COMMITTEES

The Postgraduate School Board shall have four Standing Committees and any others which may be approved by the Board. These Committees and their responsibilities are:

  • The Curriculum Committee shall consider and act on submissions from the Faculties in respect of Postgraduate courses and programmes and make recommendations on them to the Board.
  • The Admissions Committee shall consider all applications for admission based on recommendations from the Departments
  • The Academic Policy and Standards Committee shall consider and recommend policies and rules related to quality and standard of Postgraduate Studies to the Board.
  • The Research and Publications Committee shall consider and recommend policies and rules related to research and initiate relationship with other research establishments within and outside the University and
  • Disciplinary and Appeals Committee shall consider all matters requiring disciplinary action and recommend its decisions to the Board.
